I was born with a camera in my hands...
Yeah, it’s cliché and every photographer probably claims the same but a picture is worth a thousand words…
My father’s parents passed away while he was very young. So his uncle filled the void by teaching him three very distinctive skills my father held dear which he passed on to his children, driving, chess and photography. While too young to drive or be competitive in chess, my dad put a camera in my hand at the age of two. The lesson was simple; turn the ring to focus and press the shutter button. I cannot tell you if I was hooked at that early age or just a tripod with a heartbeat, but I can proudly say I am responsible for the majority of our family portraits that did not include me in the frame.
Throughout my life I kept a camera in hand but it was not until my eldest son began playing football in fifth grade that I really dove fully into understanding the “drawing of light.” I took to the end zone to separate myself from the throngs of armchair quarterbacks whose sons shared the field with mine but also to document my son’s prowess. My love for photography has no bounds and despite TLC’s warning I can often be found chasing waterfalls, sunsets, cityscapes and interesting faces.
